Box Office: ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Nears $2.75 Billion, ‘Aladdin’ Tops $800 Million, ‘John Wick 3’ Nears $300 Million

In holdover news for the weekend, Walt Disney’s Aladdin continued to stay one jump ahead of the competition. The $183 million Guy Ritchie-directed remake earned another $12.2 million (-29.5%) in its fifth weekend to bring its domestic cume to $287.5 million in a month. It earned $32.9 million (-34% in holdover territories overall) for a $522.6 million overseas cume and an obscene $810.1 million global total.

Yeah, the Mena Massoud/Naomi Scott/Will Smith musical romance has a shot at passing $900 million worldwide. No, I don’t think $1 billion is on the table, but it may get closer to The Jungle Book ($363 million domestic and $966 million worldwide) than any of us were expecting. It should be just over $300 million domestic by next weekend as it nears $850 million global in what is a clear overperformance.

To whatever extent Toy Story 4 “under performed” this weekend, specifically in North America, it is being countered by Aladdin‘s boffo run. Aladdin and John Wick: Chapter 3 are both holding like champs partially because they are offering big-screen thrills of the sort you can’t find anywhere else either in theaters or on TV. Speaking of which, skipping around a moment, the Keanu Reeves sequel earned another $4.075 million (-36%) this weekend for a $156 million domestic total and a $289 million global cume on a $75 million budget.

Men in Black International earned just $10.75 million (-64%) in its second weekend to bring its cume up to $52.689 million. That’s a lousy hold by any measure, especially after a soft-ish $30 million debut. The Chris Hemsworth/Tessa Thompson sci-fi comedy has earned an okay $182 million worldwide, so the $110 million-budgeted sequel has a shot at breaking even. Still, it’ll top out at over/under $75 million domestic and isn’t remotely the kind of performance that merits another sequel.

Universal and Illumination’s The Secret Life of Pets 2 was actually the top-ranked movie for the last four weekdays, but that’s just another example of why rank often doesn’t matter and can be arbitrary. The animated sequel earned a $10.29 million (-58%) weekend for an “okay, I guess” $117.58 million 17-day cume. This one only cost $80 million and has earned $194.7 million worldwide thus far, so it’ll make money for sure when all is said and done. But I wouldn’t expect a Secret Life of Pets 3 anytime soon.

Paramount’s Rocketman earned another $5.65 million (-40%) in weekend four for a solid $77.328 million 24-day domestic cume. It’s a good-enough run, including $153 million worldwide thus far, for Dexter Fletcher’s R-rated, $41 million-budgeted Elton John biopic, although I’d argue Paramount would have preferred a home run in light of their bumpy road of late. No matter, money is money and the Targon Egerton film is going to earn around 4.5x its budget worldwide. It’s no Straight Outta Compton or Walk the Line, but it’ll do.

Warner Bros. and Legendary’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters crossed $100 million domestic on Saturday, on its 23rd day of release. The $170 million monster sequel grossed $3.7 million (-58%) for a $102.345 million 24-day cume. The film has earned just $349.5 million worldwide in just under a month of global release. It’s not a world-changing disaster, but it is a genuine disappointment compared to expectations and to the likes of Pacific Rim, The Meg, Rampage and the previous MonsterVerse movies.
Warner Bros., New Line and Netflix’s Shaft earned just $3.55 million (-60%) weekend for a miserable $15.941 million domestic cume. It may not match the unadjusted $21.7 million debut weekend of the last Sam Jackson Shaft movie in 2000. It’ll debut overseas on Netflix soon enough and become just another terrible Netflix original. Amazon’s Late Night earned $2.583 million (-51%) in its third weekend (and it second weekend of wide release) for a $10.672 million 17-day cume.

Avengers: Endgame will earned $1.895 million (-49%) this weekend for a $834.503 million domestic cume. It’ll expand back into wide release next Friday with a new credit cookie, presumably in a bid to boost Spider-Man: Far From Home and hurt (if only a little bit) Annabelle Comes Home. It has now earned $2.749 billion worldwide, including $522 million in Europe alone. It passed Skyfall ($519 million in 2012, sans 3-D) to become the fourth-biggest grosser in that region.
Universal and Blumhouse’s Ma has now earned $43.749 million domestic and $56.8 million worldwide on a $5 million budget. The Dead Don’t Die grossed $1.13 million (-55.5%) in its second weekend for a $4.758 million domestic and $8.657 million worldwide cume. For a Jim Jarmusch movie, that’s huge. Booksmart will have $21 million domestic today. Maybe if audiences saw more movies like Late Night and Booksmart in theaters instead of just complaining about remakes and sequels they’d enjoy going to the movies more.

Gist: DJ KHALED IS SUING BILLBOARD FOR FALSE RESULTS CLAIMING “FATHER ASAHD” ALBUM SHOULD BE NUMBER 1

DJ Khaled is pissed off still. Late last week Khaled reportedly cursed out his whole record label blaming them for the album not being number 1. Then Khaled made post hating on Tyler The Creators album who was number 1 over his album. Well now we have more news. Khaled is reportedly suing Billboard claiming they did not count the 100,000 downloads/purchases for the “Father of Asahd” which came from a energy drink deal Khaled did. Billboard at first agreed to count the views, but later backed out disqualifying the promo sales.

Ent: Jay Z first Billionaire Hip-Hop Artist

Jay-Z is now a billionaire, making him the first hip-hop artist to achieve this feat.
According to Forbes, Jay-Z achieved billionaire status through his multiple business ventures both inside and outside of music. This makes Jay-Z one of the few entertainers who have achieved billionaire status and “the first hip-hop artist to do so.”
Jay-Z is involved in almost everything, from art, to real estate, stakes in major companies like Uber, and even liquor.

The rapper’s brand D’Ussé is officially worth $100 million, while his streaming service Tidal is also worth $100 million. His entertainment company Roc Nation is worth $75 million, and his classic music catalog is also worth $75 million.

[Album Review] Patoranking Leaves No Room For Criticism On The “Wilmer” Album, An Almost Perfect Music Project

Patoranking’s rise in Nigerian music has never been anything around fluke, his rise has been subject to his vast knowledge of music and his extraordinary talent. The singer having achieved his break in the music industry in 2013 with his then hit single, “Alubarika” featuring Timaya has moved on to be even a more superb artiste than he used to be.
He is well accepted not only in the Nigerian Sphere of music but also Africa in general, many thanks to his versatility and music ability. The singer who sings mostly in Jamaican Patois can also switch to singing as a proper Afrobeat artiste and be overly comfortable.
His debut album was “God Over Everything” which he released in 2016. However the journey since 2016 has been really smooth and exciting for the singer who can lay claims to being one of the current biggest superstars in Africa. That journey from 2016 has now led him to release his sophomore album; “Wilmer” which dropped last week, and that’s exactly what this article is all about as i will be reviewing the album which consists of 12 tracks and 6 features.
Starting with the number one track, “Wilmer” featuring Georgian singer, Bera is a soulful song that talks about a woman Patoranking his professing his love to. He is showering accolades on the lady as well as expressing the fact that she makes him feel great at all times. The song is accompanied with great instrumentation, the beat is simple and the sound elements aid perfectly the intention of the song. Bera’s part is top-notch too, it’s a great collaboration.
The number 2 track is titled “Feelings,” one of my favourite songs on the “Wilmer” Album. The song comes in an almost reggae like form, talking about how Patoranking feels happy and excited when the mystery woman he expresses himself about on the track comes close to where he is. The instrumental of the song is glorious and Pato’s vocals did justice to the song.
Patoranking on the number 3 track, “Temperature” thrives comes through with his greatest strength, dance-hall. Like he is famously known to do, he delivers aptly on the song and makes sure it is one for the party and clubs. A potential hit!
Patoranking seems to be all about love in the album as he invites Kenyan act, Nyanshinki to complement his artistry on this low-tempo jam, “Nakupenda” which sits on the number 4 position of the project. There isn’t much about this particular track. Although i do not feel it’s a really good song, but i do not have any serious criticism for it.
Definitely my favourite of the album and the reason why it is is straight-forward, plain and simple.
Patoranking on this track preaches the reality that continues to destroy the African existence. The number 5 track of the album is not a song, it is more of an ode that reveals why Africa continues to wallow in backwardness. It expresses the hatred, contempt, envy and evil intentions that the black people have towards each other. “Black sold black, black kill black, black relegate black, black deceive black, black division, black hate black…” These statements might seem unbelievable, but they are the exact truth and the reasons Africa continues to never grow and develop. This track identifies these problems and gives the simple solution to all of these huge problems. It recommends LOVE as the only solution. This track preaches love. What an awesome sermon, perfect number 5.
Moving on to the number 6 track of the album, “Zero Probleme,” i would say i do not find it exciting which would aid my excuse for not wanting to review it. Or should i just state why i do not like it? Okay then, i would. I do not like it because it has no amusement, Patoranking did well but Dadju who is a French singer, flopped. The thing about this song is, it should have been blessed with a chorus/hook that is melodious and one can easily vibe to, but it doesn’t. It has a nice beat though, a beat like
Patoranking’s “no Kissing” featuring Sarkodie, but the difference in the two songs wouldn’t be hard to spot.
The number 7 track, “Lenge Lenge” is a song that almost everyone knows now as it was released as a single. The song brings a reminiscence of the late Fela Anikulapo-Kuti as Patoranking adopts the call & response pattern to the song. He also adopts the simple and addictive story-telling pattern of the late baba 70. Pato sings about a woman he met who reminded him of one of his favourite ladies whom he calls, Shalewa due to her sexy body assets. “Lenge Lenge” is a fun track and one that would definitely put you in a mood you’d wish you are cooling off with a bottle of cold beer at a joint.
Moving on to the number 8 track, “Turn Up”
Patoranking and English singer/rapper Donae’o did well to to put together a party jam that could cause people to vibe gallantly on the dance floor. Like the title; “Turn Up,” the song talks all about partying and the cause for celebration. How well to be a party rider and enjoy the glamour and thrills of a party.
“Champion” is the number 9 track and teaches everyone to be wary of betrayal. It teaches not to trust anyone as the people who are trusted the most turn out to become one’s greatest enemy. It also admonishes everyone not to hate people that are getting success as success itself never go to people who are hating. With funk-like beat, Patoranking has been able to score a pretty decent song and one that is a eye opener. Nice beats to accompany you all through to the end of the song.
It is understandable why Patoranking has left “Go Crazy” to be the number 10 track. Like the title of the song, the beat would make you “go crazy” except you are just not totally in the mood to give-in to the demand of the song, but anything aside that, you might eventually lose your home training. The song is a dance track with a really fast beat and an electrifying sound element. It would bring you back to life if you experienced any dull moment while listening to the album, i guess that it’s aim.
“Open Fire” featuring South-African act, Busiswa being the penultimate track is really a good move for me and the reason is because i find it boring. If i had heard it earlier in the beginning, i might not have listened to it. It doesn’t make sense to me.
The final track is “Confirm” featuring Davido and this is another personal favourite after “Black.” The beat is really cool and the voices well laced. The song has great melody, sounds groovy and the lyrics in relation to the ambition of the song, make sense. It’s a good way to end the beautiful “Wilmer” album.
In summary, this album is another way Patoranking has proven his versatility and effortlessness at making really good music. He didn’t leave a chance for any serious criticism on the album and definitely this is a great improvement to his debut album; “God Over Everything (GOE).”
I am rating the album; 8.5/10.

ENT: 1 Thing Every Artiste That Want To Blow Can Learn From Olamide’s New Boy, Fireboy

Seeing how the YBNL new signee, Fireboy has seized all the attentions from all other acts under YBNL including, Lyta, makes it clear that there are a number of lesson that all artistes can learn from Fireboy.

At this time, he has the No. 1 song according to iTunes playlist in the whole Nigeria, isn’t that too big for an artiste still in is debut year? Well, No! Nothing is too big for some that has plan and has foresight as Fireboy.

If you are an artiste and you are ambitious about making it big in the musical business, then I have a very simple advice for you, an advice I acquired from my erudite auspices of Fireboy DML rise.

ADVICE: – I’m going to tell you something you probably don’t want to hear: “stop looking for a record label.”

Well, you might be thinking, what’s this one saying, perhaps what did I know? Well, Take my advice! But don’t stop being creative.

Don’t sleep on Improving yourself in all musical ramifications, in your writing, your vocals, your production, everything.

Instead of looking (or hoping) for a record label, take your time to invest yourself, get educated musically, spend time building your business, but stop looking for a record label.

You probably think that’s a terrible advice. It’s not. If you stop wasting your time in search of a record label and focus on improving your business, yourself, your craft and creativity, you’ll notice something very interesting, record label will start looking for you.

A wise man once say “to blow up your career you need a record label, but to get a record label, you need to build your business. “ well I am the wise man in this context.

Record labels are going to do their best work when they have something to work with, so get out there and start building it yourself to entice the label.

I remember vividly well, how I have been a harden fan of Fireboy even before the record deal he had with YBNL, this young lad inspires me a lot, the enthusiasm, fervor of doing the music business is there. You won’t be able to relate if you haven’t taken a sneak peek on this artiste Souncloud page.

Fireboy took the business serious, he has a goal for himself, he plans to achieve everything without putting a record label or any investor in the picture, he just keeps handling himself with utmost believe and goal driven.

The reality is ;

Record labels look for two things in an artist: talent and commercial viability.

Record labels expect to make their money by applying their skills to develop the first thing and to exploit the second one to their utmost gratification.

All of this said, I know you want to work on your art and develop your craft as best as you can now!

If you build it, Record label will come your way for sure! That’s the code.

Fireboy built it, and YBNL came for him and now look at he has achieved so far!

If Fireboy can do it, then why can’t you?

I hope this inspires you as an artiste to do more… Never Stop Believing!

GIST: KELIS SAYS $100,000 A YEAR IN SUPPORT FROM NAS IS NOT ENOUGH AFTER HE MADE $40 MILLION FROM RING INVESTMENT

It seems all good news brings bad news. A few weeks ago we broke the story that Nas made over $40 Million dollars off his RING investment which recently sold to Amazon for over $1 Billion dollars.

It seems Nas’s ex Kelis also caught the good news. Kelis who was married to Nas and had a kid with him, now wants more child support money per year. Kelis claims that the $100,000 she gets a year isnt enough anymore.

Kelis is now threatening Nas with his son and she claims she will not let Nas see his son until she gets more money.

Kelis called Nas and his lawyer Navid Moshtael a “fattie” and a “dick.”

Stay tuned as we get more info on this situation.

Davido’s “If” In Review

Davidos-If-In-review

Davido’s “If” In Review

Listening to Davido’s new single for the first time, this phrase kept ringing in my mind ‘Davido is back!’ This new song is a hit back to back in contrast to the other songs he released after his creative control was offered to Sony and began to experiment with new sounds that had seen him struggle.

Produced by talented producer and singer, Tekno, the tempo, beats and drop-stop drumkicks were impressive and gave this song it’s uniqueness.

The lyrics of the song is filled with humour as well as a lot of meaning. It tells of the wooing and promises he offered his lover so she could accept him. Even the epic line ‘no do no do no do gra gra for me…..’ from Lagbaja’s hit song brought a swift acceptance and recognition by Nigerians.

The video which endeared his fans more shows Davido on a street in London, in love with a lady played by popular dancer and video vixen, Nqobile Danseur. She is also a model who’s worked with Wizkid, Rihanna, Drake and so on. Davido as usual also bragged about his money and how he uses it to attract women.

All in all, I think Davido is back on track with this hit single and is sure going to wow his fans with more mind blowing songs.

‘The Walking Dead’ showrunner promises ‘epic’ finale for season 7

1489838683015

The Paley Center for Media’s 34th annual PaleyFest kicked off Friday at the Dolby Theatre with a session devoted to AMC’s “The Walking Dead.” Exec producer Scott Gimple gave fans a glimpse of what to expect in the final installments of season seven.

“The season finale will be a conclusion that promises an epic story ahead. It’s about setting up season eight but also beyond,” said Gimple.

Josh McDermitt, who plays the fan-favorite Eugene, talked about his character’s decision to align himself with the ultra-villainous Negan, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

“I don’t feel like he’s playing a game. I think he’s trying to protect himself,” McDermitt said. “Eugene is scared and a lot of it comes from Negan so he’s out looking for himself. And why not align yourself with the person who gives him the most fear? That’s how I see it.”

Robert Kirkman, creator of the “Walking Dead” graphic novel that inspired the series, shared his conflicted feelings about the Negan character..

“The most impressive thing is that he’s this horrible person doing horrible things to characters you love but he had this spark that’s engaging. He’s so likable. He’s personable,” Kirkman said.

Actor Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie Green, added her contrarian thoughts about Negan.

“I was burning up inside when Robert was talking about how likable and charming Negan is,” she said.

The season finale of “The Walking Dead” is set for April 2 at 9 p.m.

Happy birthday, Adam Levine!

The Maroon 5frontman received a special tribute from wife Behati Prinslooon Saturday afternoon, who shared an adorable snapshot of the lovebirds to Instagram. “THE LOVE OF MY LIFE. Happy birthday,” the supermodel wrote alongside a black and white photobooth pic of Behati sticking her tongue out at Adam, pictured smoking a cigar. Adam celebrates his 38th birthday today, and while plans for a bash have yet to be revealed, we can only guess Behati has something super memorable in the works for her man. It’s been quite a year for The Voice coach, who welcomed daughter Dusty Rose six months ago.

Levine recently stopped by The Tonight Show with a heartwarming update about fatherhood and life as a family of three.

“It’s so fun to do new stuff all the time and it’s constantly entertaining,” he shared with Jimmy Kimmelabout having a little one in the house. Adam then teased that he and Behati are currently battling to win Dusty’s first word.

Levine admitted, “I’ve been working ‘dada’ hard. You slip it into everything you say.”

“I’m working super hard on it,” he added. “My wife is working ‘mama,’ so it’s a battle to the finish.”

Here’s to Adam’s best year yet!
