About 30 persons were on Monday killed while over 60 suffered various degrees of burns while scooping Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, also known as fuel from a loaded truck that skidded off the road and fell at Ahumber village in Gwer East local government area of Benue state.

An eyewitness told Vanguard that the PMS ladened truck which was traveling towards Makurdi skidded off the road and fell while the driver was trying to avoid multiple potholes on that portion of the road.
According to him, “shortly after the truck fell, the people in the village ran towards the spot with buckets to scoop the fuel that was spilling from the truck, they probably thought it was kerosine of diesel.
“It was while this was going on that the truck exploded into a huge flame which also affected an oncoming loaded bus heading towards Otukpo roasting about 30 persons to death but more than 60 others sustained serious burns and many of them may not survive.”
When contacted, the Benue State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corp, FRSC, Mr. Aliu Baba who confirmed the incident said his men were on ground to evacuate the victims to various hospitals in the area.
“At the moment we have recovered about 10 corpses, over 50 persons were affected and they are receiving treatment in some hospitals in the area.
“Though for now we are yet to ascertain the real number of the dead but the fire is still raging and oozing from the nuzzles of the tanker.
“Unfortunately the tanker fell in a neighbourhood that had shops were people sold goods. They all lost their goods to the fire but men of the fire service are battling to put out the fire.”
At the time of this report, the Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent, DSP, Catherine Anene said the command was yet to get full details of the incident.

The Police in Enugu State have described the reported chasing away of some herdsmen from Enugu community as the handiwork of mischief makers, vowing to bring such persons to book.
DAILY POSTreports that this was contained in a statement issued Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the State, SP Ebere Amaraizu.
A video had surfaced online, with a claim that herders were chased away from Nenwe in Nkanu, Enugu State.
But Amaraizu, in the statement, declared that no such incident happened in the State.
The statement read: “The Enugu State command of the Nigeria police force wishes to inform members of the public that its attention has been drawn to information in existence that large herd of cows and some herders were escorted peacefully out of nenwe, Aninri community of Enugu state on 29/6/19 by youths believed to be from Agbada Nenwe.
“The Police wish to update members of the public who may have been misinformed with the state of things.
“On receipt of this information, the state commissioner of police directed for an investigation into the alleged development and following preliminary enquiry conducted, it was revealed that such situation never existed and that it was only the movement of cattle and herders from Cross River State, through Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government area of Ebonyi State and a neighboring town for grazing.
“The said piece of information in circulation is viewed to be the handiwork of mischief makers who want to brew rancour, cause panic and fear and also sow seed of acrimony as well as instigating violence.
“The command has already commenced action with a view to identifying and fishing out those in the habit of mischievous information so that they can be brought to book. The commissioner of police enjoins all to be law abiding and go about their normal lawful businesses,” he further stated.

Wife to Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo has broken silence on the rape allegations by Timi Dakolo’s wife, Busola againsther husband, who diubles as General Overseer of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly, COZA.
Busola, the wife of popular singer, Timi Dakolo had alleged that the COZA founder had forcefully raped her when she was young.
The mother-of-three narrated how Pastor Fatoyinbo allegedly forced his way into her when she was a teenager.
Fatoyinbo, however, denied the allegation, though admitted that Busola once attended the same church with his family.
The clergyman consequently ordered his lawyers to institute both criminal and civil cases against Busola.

Despite the unysual heavy presence of armed policemen, protesters, mostly women, Sunday morning marched on the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) church in Lagos.
But the presence of the armed policemen deterred the marchers from moving close to the church.
The protest was called against the global senior pastor of COZA, Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo who was alleged to have raped Busola Dakolo, a celebrity photographer and wife of Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo, when she was a teenager.

But a right activist Segun Awosanya told The Guardian that there were more than 30 alleged victims who will testify against the pastor.
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says starting from 2020, candidates will register for its examinations with their National Identity Management Number (NIM) to solve the challenges of multiple registration.
Dr. Fabian Benjamin, Head of Media of the board made this known at a one-day capacity building workshop organised by the National Examination Council (NECO) for education correspondents in Keffi, Nasarawa on Friday.
Benjamin, who spoke on the topic: “Understanding Reporting in the 21st Century”, said the development would be facilitated through partnership with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
According to him, experience has shown that malpractice in the conduct of public examination, especially the UTME, actually begins with the registration exercise.
“Four days ago, we cancelled results of four candidates because of examination malpractices we discovered after the examination.
“The board is on top of the situation as it has the determination and technology in place to forestall attempts at compromising the registration process.
“An intrinsic part of the strategies adopted by the board is ensuring that its registration period is kept very short.”
He said that the registration of candidates would now take 30 days instead of a longer period to contain the chances of fraudsters’ strategies to circumvent the process.
Benjamin also appealed to parents to desist from encouraging their children to commit examination malpractices.
On biometric challenges, he said the board had planned to ensure that by 2020 the issues of biometric problems in the course of registration would be over.
“In 2018, we have about 24,490 biometric challenges but we have been able to bring this down to 22 in 2019; but if we are able to stand on our ground by 2020, we will not have any biometric challenges,” he said.
He added that no Computer Based Test (CBT) centre would be used for the conduct of its examinations except those centre whose administrators were the owners of the CBT centres.
Speaking on the challenges of impersonations in examination, Benjamin said multiple registrations, if not checked, was an easy way to impersonate a candidate.
He noted that the board, in conforming to international best practices, would take care of people with special needs through the ICT capacity building and empowerment programme.

A yahoo girl identified as Isaac Christiana Nkemdirim has bagged an 8-months jail sentence, after being arraigned by the EFCC.
The yahoo girl who bagged an 8-months jail sentence, pleaded guilty to the one count charge of obtaining by false pretence contrary to Section 15(2)(a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2002 as amended and punishable under 15(3) of the same Act. The statement by EFCC reads in part;
“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Benin Zonal Office today, June 28, 2019 secured the conviction of Isaac Christiana Nkemdirim before Justice M.G. Umar of the Federal High Court sitting in Benin City, Edo State. Nkemdirim was convicted on a one count charge of obtaining by false pretence contrary to Section 15(2)(a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2002 as amended and punishable under 15(3) of the same Act.
Upon her arraignment, Nkemdirim pleaded guilty to the charge. Based on her plea, the prosecution counsel, Fredrick O. Dibang prayed the court to convict and sentence the defendant accordingly. However, the defence counsel prayed the court to temper justice with mercy as his client was a first time offender and a youth who has promise never to go back to the crime. Justice M.G. Umar thereafter convicted and sentenced the defendant to eight ( months imprisonment without an option of fine.)”

FALSE REPORTS OF AIRCRAFT DELIVERING ITEMS IN AKUKWE FOREST AREA OF ENUGU STATE
1. The attention of Headquarters Ground Training Command (HQ GTC) Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Enugu has been drawn to a story being circulated by some mischievous, misguided elements purporting that NAF helicopters were being used to “drop” weapons for Fulani herdsmen in the forest area of Akwuke Community in Enugu South Local Government Area (LGA) of Enugu State. The report alleged that helicopters had been seen on several occasions flying at low level and landing in the forest area to “discharge their packages”.
2. HQ GTC wishes to state that the report is deliberately misleading and obviously concocted by the writer to cause disaffection and incite negative, divisive emotions. It must be noted that the NAF has 2 helicopter training institutions under its purview, which have been operating in Enugu for several years. These are the International Helicopter Flying School (IHFS) and 405 Helicopter Combat Training Group (405 HCTG), whose training curricula include low level flying around the forest areas near Akukwe, which is one of their designated training areas.
3. In particular, the 405 HCTG commenced tactical training on the newly acquired 109 Power helicopters on 24 May 2019, which includes low level flying as well as other maneuvres requiring them to land and take off within the training area. However, at no time was any NAF helicopter used to ‘drop’ any materials, let alone deliver weapons to any individual or group. Members of the public, especially residents of Enugu State, are therefore advised to discountenance the fake report and go about their normal activities without fear.
4. The NAF, as a professional fighting force, remains resolute in performing its constitutional role of defending the territorial integrity of a united Nigeria. Accordingly, we shall continue to work assiduously, in synergy with sister Services and other security agencies, to rid the country of all criminal elements in order to enable all Nigerians pursue their legitimate aspirations.

Naira has revealed he met a particular guy in jail who has been in jail for over 9 months without being given a chance to appear in court, he also talked about another who has been put in jail just because he refused to leave the daughter of a rich woman after so many warnings.
He has revealed he is willing to help these guys and hopes other Nigerians help him in his quest to have them regain freedom.

No less than 4 people have died after armed Fulani herdsmen launched a fresh attack on Riyom local government area of Plateau state.
A soldier is confirmed to have died in the incident which took place around 12 pm on Monday and spanned several hours without security intervention.
Eyewitnesses say over 300 herdsmen invaded the village, shooting indiscriminately and burning houses including a government-owned clinic in the community after they overpowered men of the vigilante group who tried to resist them.

Datong who condemned the incident said that he had concluded plans to table the issue as a matter of urgent public importance before the Assembly members during their plenary in Jos on Tuesday.
The lawmaker said, ” Yes I can confirm to you that four of our people including security personnel were killed during the incident. Many were also wounded. We have also counted at least fifty four houses that were completely burnt down by the attackers.”
The Nigerian man who destroyed five cars belonging to the Nigerian High Commission in the United Kingdom yesterday June 17th has now been identified as Jeffery Apkovweta Ewohime.
According to reports, the 32-year-old had arrived late at the Embassy for his appointment and was turned back. Frustrated that he could not achieve his aim, Ewohime took his frustration out on the cars parked outside the embassy. He destroyed five of them using iron rods and stones.
Ewohime whose passport has been seized in time past by Belgian Embassy where he caused trouble, has been arrested by the police in London.
Narrating what happened, the Comptroller General of Immigration Service, Muhammed Babandede, in a statement released last night, said
“Ewohime arrived late and was told by the Security that the Mission has closed for the day. He went about destroying Nigeria’s diplomatic vehicles worth hundreds of thousands of taxpayers money. The passport in question has been issued since 6th of June 2019. He did not leave any self-addressed envelope for delivery.”
Reacting to the incident, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, described Ewohime’s action as ”unpatriotic, and an unconscionable act of indiscipline.”
Bella Thorne decided to take her power back from a hacker by releasing her Unclad photos herself.
The 21-year-old actress received messages from an unknown person who had a series of her own topless photos and videos after hacking her phone. The hacker threatened to make the photos public.
In most of the photos, Bella is seen Unclad from the waist up with her nipples on display.
Rather than let the hacker shame and blackmail her, Bella released screenshots of the conversation with the hacker’s phone number on display.

Bella released the topless photos and wrote a heartfelt message, revealing that the hacker also had indecent images of other celebs.
The message reads: “Yesterday, as you all know, my s**t was hacked. For the last 24 hours, I have been threatened with my own nudes – I feel gross, I feel watched, I feel someone has taken something from me that I only wanted one special person to see.
“He has sent me multiple nude photos of other celebs, he won’t stop with me or them he will just keep going.”
“For too long I let a man take advantage of me over and over and I’m f***ing sick of it.
“I am putting this out because it’s MY DECISION NOW, YOU WON’T GET TO TAKE YET ANOTHER THING FROM ME.
“I can sleep tonight better [sic] knowing I took my power back. You can’t control my life, you never will.
“Here are the photos he’s been threatening me with, in other words, here are my boobies.
“So here, f*** you, and the last 24 hours I have been crying instead of celebrating my book while doing my book press.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Benin Zonal Office today, June 17, 2019 secured the conviction of one Akhigbe Gabriel before Justice M.G. Umar of the Federal High Court sitting in Benin City, Edo State.
Gabriel was convicted on a three count charge of impersonation and intent to defraud through the internet contrary to Section 22(2)(b)(ii) of the Cyber crime (prohibition, prevention etc) Act 2015 and punishable under Section 22(2)(b)(IV)) of the same Act
Gabriel who at various times presented himself as Mathew Swan, Mathew Chang, David Wong, Richard Swan and Mark Peter was alleged to have, with intent to defraud sent electronic messages to one Candy Selfie, an American lady in order to hoodwinked her.
One of the counts reads: “That you Akhibge Gabriel (a.k.a Mathew Aswan, Mathew Chang , David Wong, Richard Swan and Mark Peter) sometime between 2018 and 2019 at Uromi within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did fraudulently impersonate the identity of one Michael Chan by sending an American picture to Candy Selfie a lady in America through the internet which picture and identity you claim to be our own with the intent to obtain money from her, and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 22 (2)(b)(ii) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition Prevention etc) Act, 2015 and punishable under Section 22 (2)(b)(IV) of the same Act”.
Akhibge pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
Based on his plea, the prosecution counsel, F.A. Jirbo preyed the court to sentence and convict the defendant as contained in the plea bargain agreement. .
However, the defence counsel, Peter Asemota pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy as his client was a first time offender, a youth who has become remorseful and has promised never to go back to the crime.
Justice Umar thereafter sentenced the accused to six (6) months imprisonment with an option of N2,000,000 (Two Million Naira).

The heavy rainfall that occurred in Lagos earlier today, June 15th, 2019 caused a container to fall on multiple cars and the casualty toll remains unknown.
As at the time of filing this report, there’s not been any precise figure as to the casualty from the accident, although some sources say there weren’t any, it can’t be yet confirmed at this time.
In the month of June, the rainfall that has rocked the city of Lagos has caused a high rate of flooding and erosion in the state causing its residents to face inconvenient situations as a result.
Goods worth millions of naira were midnight of Friday destroyed at the popular Orita-Aperin market in Ibadan, the state capital.
The cause of the fire incident, which razed the market, is yet to be ascertained as at the time of filing this report on Saturday.
The Babaloja of Orita-Aperin, Mr. Abiodun Ahmed, while speaking, said that goods worth millions of naira were lost to the fire, adding that the cause of the incident was yet to be known.
He said: “The fire started by 12 midnight on Friday, and we immediately called on Oyo State Fire Service but unfortunately, when they got here, the nuzzle of their truck was not functioning, so we have to resolve to self help by putting out the fire ourselves, or else, the loss would have been more than this.”
Ahmed noted that most of the owners of the shops affected by the fire just bought goods into their respective shops, adding that, that was what made the total value of the goods affected by the fire to be much.
“The shops that were affected include shop of a jewelry seller, shop of a food ingredient seller, shop of a provision seller, red oil seller and herbs seller, among others, five million, six hundred thousand was the worth of jewelries that got burnt, and most of the goods affected in the shops of the herbs seller can not be replaced because they were ancient goods that can not be seen on market again,” he said.
Ahmed, however, appealed to the Oyo State Government to come to their aide because the loss was too much for the victims to bear.
One of the victims, whose shop was also affected by the fire, Latifat Adegbola, appealed to the Oyo State Government to assist them financially because the money they used to procure the goods that were lost was collected based on interest.
“All my goods has been consumed by fire and the remaining ones are useless, we are calling on the state government to come to our aide so that we can survive.”
A pepper and onion seller, Mariam Oladepo, while speaking, said she lost goods worth one hundred thousand naira to the inferno, adding that her shop has been razed by the fire and nothing remains for her and her children to feed on.
European Union Election Observation Mission on the 2019 general elections formally unveiled its report and recommendations at the weekend in Abuja.
The Chief Observer of the EU team, Maria Arena read to newsmen, excerpts of its reports which contained 30 recommendations to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Tribune Online findings revealed that the EU deployed over 91 observers to 261 polling units and 94 collation centres in 31 states of the Federation during the last Presidential and National Assembly elections.
It equally deployed 73 observers to 223 polling units and 81 collation centres in 22 states of the Federation for the Governorship, State Assembly and Federal Capital Territory, (FCT) Area Council elections.
Giving its verdict on the election, the EU Chief Observer said the electoral process, from voting, collation and final declaration of results were not too transparent. She admonished the Commission “to strengthen collation of results transparently to inspire confidence in the process.”
INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu in his prompt response said democracy was a work in progress and his Commission was determined to implement EU recommendations.
The EU observation in its report read in part: “Inconsistent numbers during collation, lack of clear checks and explanations, and insufficient public information undermined the integrity of the elections.
“Citizens did not have sufficient means to scrutinise results. INEC did not provide centralised information on the declared results for the different locations and has not posted complete results data on its website.
“Similarly, there is a lack of disaggregated results by LGA, ward or polling unit, which would allow for thorough checking of results.”
It recommended that “legal requirements be established for full results transparency, with data easily accessible to the public.
“All results, including those from lower levels, be immediately displayed at collation centres. Results forms from all collation centres be scanned and published on the INEC website by the time of the declaration of final results. Results forms from all polling units be published before the deadline for submission of petitions against declared results.”
Expressing concern over the postponement of presidential and national assembly elections, “five hours before polling was due to start on February 16, the EU recommended “organisational and operational capacity within INEC be considerably strengthened. Improve the planning, tracking, and the required human and material resources for timely and accountable operations. In addition, improve internal communication within INEC.”
The EU Chief Observer, however, admitted: “that INEC worked in a difficult environment and made some improvements.” To strengthen Nigeria democracy, the EU called for a national dialogue involving state institutions, parties, civil society and the media.
She said: “This needs to be urgently undertaken to allow time for debate, legislative changes and implementation well in advance of the next elections.” She further noted that such national dialogue for future elections was imperative to instil sanity in the process before the next general elections.
Asked by newsmen if in her judgement the 2015 general elections were better than the 2019 exercise, Maria Arena. said it was difficult for her to pass judgement.
“It is difficult to say one election was better than the other. What we can say is that there is room for more transparency. We need to improve on the system and it is a problem if we aren’t seeing improvement. If we want to sustain democracy, there must be more transparency in the process.”
The INEC chairman said the full EU EOM report and recommendations would be useful for future elections. “Indeed, the report is coming at the right time as it will feed into our ongoing review of the conduct of the elections.
“Let me assure you that the Commission will again quickly focus attention on the electoral legal framework in addition to several other areas of reform. We will study in detail all recommendations as part of our ongoing internal review of the 2019 general elections which we hope to conclude in the next two months.
“Immediately thereafter, we shall engage with the leadership of the 9th National Assembly on areas that require legislation while implementing aspects of the reform within the powers of the Commission in full consultation with stakeholders.”
The Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Bala Elkana, has revealed the punishment that will be meted to whoever buys a stolen phone in Lagos.
While enlighten Nigerians on the consequences of buying a stolen phone, Bala said the minimum sentencing for offenders is 7 years and the buyer will get more jail years than the thief.
According to him:-
“Under our laws, it is quite a serious offence for one to buy stolen phones. The law even regards the buyer to be more culpable than even the thief. The punishment is more for the buyer than the thief.
The wisdom behind that is to discourage people from stealing because if there is no market where they would sell those stolen things, they would not steal them but because they have a ready market, they easily steal.
“This is why the law makes the punishment stiffer for the buyer. The person who steals may get three years punishment, while the buyer could get seven years imprisonment and at the end, he will lose the property once we trace it to him.
For a person to avoid buying stolen property, it is advisable that he buys things in the open market and not on the street or people who are just passing and not dealing in such wares.”
Explaining how a case of purchasing stolen phones can be checked, Elkana said:-
“The most important thing when we charge a buyer to court is to look at whether he has knowledge that that thing he bought was a stolen property.
How do we test the knowledge? What is the market value and how much did he buy it? If the market value is N100 and you buy it N10, automatically, you will know that you are buying a stolen property.
Secondly, we would check where he bought it. Was it in a regular market where such items are sold or he just bought it on the road from somebody?
“That is enough for him to know that he is not buying something that is genuine.
Thirdly, we would check the time of the day that he bought the phone. These are important things we look at when we are investigating to check whether the person has knowledge that the phone was stolen or not.”
The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has lamented the poor state of education across the states of the federation.
Mr Adeyemi Azeez, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the association made this known in a statement in Abuja on Saturday.
Azeez called on all governors of states (both new and returning) to immediately set up visitation panel to all higher institutions of learning.
Azeez noted that it was imperative to make the remark about the country’s educational sector after a general overview from all the states of the federation, NAN reports.
“As it is obvious that only a sincere, dedicated and purpose driven government at states level can bring a clear repositioning to the education sector.
“NANS calls on all governors of states (both new and returning) to as a matter of urgency and necessity, set up visitation panel to all higher institutions of learning.
“This will avail the government with detailed state of each campus and proffer realistically workable solutions to address the challenges,” he said.
He noted that the president of NANS, Mr Danielson Akpan had also described as disheartening, a situation where education that was free and accessible in the days of today’s leaders, is now unaffordable to the sons and daughters of the poor.
He said that most classrooms, laboratories and libraries had become ill-equipped in recent times.
Azeez, however, commended Gov. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun for declaring a state of emergency in the education sector of the state, during his inauguration speech on May 29.
The association, however, implored the governor to make his declaration a complete reality and not just a mere pronouncement.
President Muhammadu Buhari has charged Nigerian universities to intensify efforts at making discoveries and inventions that can assist the development of the country.
He made the call on Saturday in Dutsinma, Katsina State, in his address at the fourth convocation of the Federal University, Dutsinma (FUDMA).
The president, represented by Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, a former Deputy Governor of Kano State, said, “Research, critical thinking, moral dispositions, discoveries and inventions should find natural habitats in our universities, as they do in several other universities in the world.
“Universities are supposed to be strong drivers of the country’s development initiatives for sustainable development,” he said.
Buhari challenged the universities for being slow as regards discoveries and inventions, NAN reports.
“It is not heart-warming that in our over 58 years of independence, Nigerian universities are slow in discoveries and inventions,” he said.
He, however, said that his administration would continue to do everything possible to improve structures and facilities in the institutions, and to enhance learning by training the required manpower through various interventions like TETFUND.
Buhari also urged FUDMA to partner with the Sokoto River Basin Development Authority to produce improved agricultural varieties and give the required scientific and extension support to the local farmers.
He said that this would enhance the farmers’ productivity and economic viability.

All members of the National Youth Service Corps have cause to rejoice, as N30,000 new allowance is about to be implemented.
Director-General, National Youth Service Corps, Shuaibu Ibrahim, has said the scheme will communicate to corps members when the payment of N30,000 new allowance would take off, TheNation has reported.
The DG stated this on Friday at a workshop/ training on Freedom of Information Act for Desk Officers of the NYSC in Abuja.
When he was asked when the payment of N30,000 allowance for corps members would take -off, the DG said: “They will be communicated accordingly, please.”
The DG said the workshop is aimed at consolidating on the successes recorded by the scheme regarding the use of the FOIA.
Ibrahim said that the scheme had grappled with challenges, which were occasioned by “apparent lack of knowledge of our policies and operations by a section of the public.”
He urged Nigerians to familiarise themselves with the NYSC Act so as to understand better, the operations of the scheme and its role.
Ibrahim said:-
“Since the enactment of the Freedom of Information Act in 2011, the NYSC has been in the forefront of ensuring total compliance with the provisions of the Act.”
The NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs Adenike Adeyemi, noted that the scheme had FOI community development service groups for corps members who assist in sensitising members of the public on the FOI Act.
The Senate President assured that if presented in September ending or early October, the budget would be passed before the December break.
The Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, on Friday said Nigeria’s annual appropriation bill would be passed in three months under his leadership.

There was pandemonium in the early hours of Saturday as no fewer than four Automated Teller Machines owned by a new generation bank burst in flames and exploded destroying the machines.
The incident Vanguard gathered occurred at the an ATM gallery in front of University of Calabar, UNICAL, gate at about 9:00 am this morning.
Vanguard also learned that no customer was injured during the explosion but there was panic because the explosion causes trepidation amongst users and passers by near the University gate.

The authorities of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Tuesday approved 160 as a minimum cut-off mark for candidates seeking admission into public universities in Nigeria.
This is the outcome of JAMB’s 19th policy meeting on admissions to tertiary institutions in Nigeria held at BolaBabalakin auditorium, Gbongan, Osun State.
The meeting, which was attended by Vice Chancellors, Rectors of Polytechnics and provosts of colleges of education also approved 140 for private universities, while 120 was fixed as a cut-off mark for public polytechnic and 110 for private polytechnic.
Similarly, 100 and above was approved for colleges of education.
Making these disclosures during the meeting, the Registrar of JAMB, ProfessorIshaqOloyede said plans were underway to conduct an open examination for students seeking admissions into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
Describing the development as a new innovation for 2019 Unified Tertiary and Matriculation Examination, (UTME), he contended that it was aimed at curbing examination malpractice, explaining that the board would provide one million questions for each subject out of which 50 would be answered for the examination.
Oloyede, however, expressed concern over the increasing number of applicants, seeking to study Medicine in universities, saying 436,799 candidates applied for the course during the last UTME against available space for 35,923 candidates.
Earlier in his remark, chairman, governing the board of JAMB, Dr. Emmanuel, said the board was striving to provide a unique standard that will be acceptable by students and parents.
The director of Tertiary Education, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. Joel Ojo Samuel, who spoke on behalf of the permanent secretary of the ministry charged the board to be sensitive, transparent and sincere in the consideration of students cut-off mark.
He stated that “accountability and transparency have made it possible for JAMB to, directly and indirectly, support other Institutions and agencies in the education sector. It is gladdening that NECO has taken a cue with its unprecedented remittance of over a billion naira recently.”
“The board should go further by ensuring the prosecution of all culprits and suspects of these nefarious and criminal activities in order to serve as a deterrent to those planning for a future exercise, and to also send a very strong and clear signal to those that have entrenched themselves in these acts of criminality.”
“It is disheartening that there are still many reports of unethical behaviours on our campuses, especially those relating to the abuse of trust and confidence reposed in staff of tertiary institutions”, Samuel remarked.

An elderly woman who won a protracted legal battle against retired president Daniel Arap Moi over 53 acres parcel of land has not been leaving in peace since the landmark ruling was made on May 16, 2019.
The 85-year-old Susan Cheburet Chelugui reportedly abandoned home after High Court ordered the former president to pay her KSh 1.06 billion as compensation for grabbing her land, a directive that did not sit well with the Moi family.
A report by Citizen TV on Saturday, June 8, confirmed Chelugui and members of her family started avoiding their own home fearing for their lives.
“In the Kenya of today, if you touch the big person you will be attacked at night or even during the day when walking around. So we are not even secure…we do not know where we will go now.
We do not know if we should go and stay in hotels in town yet there is no money, ” her daughter Lillian Chelugui lamented.
Chelugui’s family claimed they have not been living in peace since the court ruling and urged the retired head of state to let them stay in peace with the granny saying all she needs is her land back and that she is not interested in money.
“I am not after money, people love money but for me I don not love money. What I want my land so Ii can leave it to my children,” a worried Chelugui said in Swahili.
In their court case, Chelugui and her son David Chelugui had argued the former president took over their family land in 2007, about two years after the death of Chelugui’s husband Noah Chelugui who served as chief when Moi was still president.
The court found Moi illegally acquired the land belonging to Chelugui’s family and sold it to Rai Plywood Limited which has been occupying the controversial land since 2007.
“Acquisition of the said properties by the first and second respondents were arbitrary unconstitutional, irregular, unprocedural, tainted, a nullity ab initio and therefore not worthy of any constitutional protection,” judge Judge Anthony Ombwayo ruled.
Ombwayo stated a KSh 1 billion was to be awarded as a commensurate compensation to Chelugui’s family for the loss of their land.
“The 1st and 2nd respondents…are hereby ordered to pay the estate of the late Noah Chelugui the prompt payment in full of just and current market value of the said properties…,” the judge ruled.
Unhappy with the ruling, the Moi family is expected to challenge the High Court decision.

Just one week after CEO Dara Khosrowshahi hinted that Uber was experimenting with cross-promoting its food delivery service in the company’s main ride-hailing app,TechCrunchhas dug up exactly what that looks like. The company is currently rolling out a way for customers to place Eats food delivery orders inside the main Uber app.
If a customer does not already have the standalone Uber Eats app, and lives in one of the hundreds of cities where Eats operates alongside ride-hailing — but, crucially, one where there are no scooters or bikes available, meaning New York, Los Angeles, or San Francisco are not included here — the Eats logo will now show up in the top right corner of the main Uber app. Tapping the logo will bring up a fully functioning web browser version of Uber Eats, where customers can place an order just like they would in the main Eats app.
Uber says this integration is now live in those markets on 100 percent of iOS devices, while the Android rollout began this week and is up to about 17 percent. The company declined to share any feedback it’s collected on the Eats integration. Originally launched in 2014 as “UberFresh,” Uber Eats was part of the main Uber app until the company spun it out at the end of 2015.
Khosrowshahi said last week on a conference call with investors that Uber was in the “very, very early” stages of “exploring the many, many ways in which [Uber’s] rides business can help continue to build [its] Eats business, and vice versa,” and said that the company had seen “very, very encouraging” early returns.
Uber is eager to promote Eats for a few reasons. Eats generated $536 million in revenue for Uber in the first quarter of 2019, and the company believes it will only continue to grow. “It is a huge category, and there are some folks that believe that the food category can be larger than the rides category,” Khosrowshahi said last week. Food delivery is indeed growing so fast that an entire industry of “ghost restaurants” has sprung up to serve the demand.
Uber also loves Eats because it gives the company a way into countries that would otherwise block or hamper its ride-hailing service. By establishing the Eats service in these markets, the company believes its chances increase of eventually introducing ride-hailing.
To that end, Uber views Eats as a way to soak up some of the massive losses attributable to its ride-hailing business. And since Eats is attracting lots of new customers who didn’t already use Uber for ride-hailing, it’s possible Uber will eventually try the reverse of this cross-promotion integration. Khosrowshahi said last week that 50 percent of Eats customers don’t use Uber for ride-hailing, meaning the food delivery service is bringing in a lot of new users. “These are customers that then we can upsell into the rides business,” he said.
The National Youth Service (NYS) and Integrated Financial Management System (IFMIS) are among host of government websites that were Monday attacked by an Indonesia hacker group, Kurd Electronic Team.
The portals were attacked in the morning with hackers placing their logo on the landing pages, in a clear indication they have taken control of the site.
All the hacked websites are on servers powered by the Unix-based FreeBSD operating system.
IMMIGRATION DEPARTMENT
Some of the affected websites included those of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), the Immigration Department, Kenya Meat Commission, Petroleum Ministry and Refugees Affairs.
The other sites that were attacked includes National Environment Trust Fund, the Department of Planning and the National Development Implementation Technical Committee were also attacked.
By the time this story was published, the ICT Authority had recovered the websites and placed them under maintenance.
ICT Authority CEO Katherine Getao confirmed the incident adding that in the case of IFMIS, it’s only the website which was affected but the system was up and running.

“It’s true that the websites including IFMIS were attached this morning. The office of the government spokesperson should be able to release the official statement on the matter today (Monday),” said Ms Getao without revealing further details.
The attack comes barely a few years after an Indonesian hacker known as direxer took down over 100 government websites.
The hacker is part of an online Indonesian security forum known as Forum Code Security took down the websites following tutorials from the forum.
The news of the hacking was first exposed on the site code-security.net/archives/114.

The attack also comes barely a few years after the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) website was also hacked.
CA is the State agency that regulates Internet resources for public and private entities.
CA’s website was hacked by a group calling itself AnonPlus that replaced the regulator’s homepage with a five-point hackers’ manifesto promising to “defend freedom of information, freedom of the people and emancipation of the latter from the oppression of media and those who govern us”.
The agency is supposed to protect all government sites from malicious attacks.

An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has freed a manaccused by female colleague of rape after the judge resolved rape did not occur based on the defendant’s arguement.
According to Justice Abiola Soladoye, the accuser and the accused were “friends with benefits.”
Justice Soladoye said in instances where there were controversies as to whether consent was willingly given, medical evidence should be provided which the prosecution counsel failed to present.
“This is a case of a friendship that went sour as far as this court is concerned,” said the Judge.
Thirty-year-old Damilola Odekunle had accused her teacher colleague, AkoredeQuadri, of rape sometime in September 2017, an allegation he denied, claiming they were both into a sexual relationship which went sour at some point.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the complainant reported the rape allegedly committed in September 2017 to the police in November 2017.
She told the court that Quadri raped her after he went to her apartment in Ikotun, Lagos, to pick up a bag he kept in her possession.
In her evidence, the complainant testified that Quadri and she were both working in a school in Lagos, adding that she had worked in the school for only two weeks when the alleged rape occurred.
The complainant, now 30-year-old, said she was 27 years old at the time of the alleged rape.
She said “When he came to my house, he grabbed me and raped me. I said to him, “What if I get pregnant?” He asked if I had potash at home and I said, “Yes”, and he gave me potash, water and salt to drink.
But, Quadri, who was arraigned on Jan. 10, on a count charge of rape, disputed the claims in his evidence.
According to him, “She told me she was a divorcee, she said she married her ex-husband as a virgin and he made her unhappy.
“I told her to forget him and move on with her life. We became friends with benefits.
“The sexual intercourse we had was not forced, it was consensual. She nagged after the intercourse that I ejaculated inside her.
“I asked if she had salt and potash in her house and she said, “Yes”. She added the salt and potash inside the water and drank it.
“This was in September 2017; I have had several rounds of sexual intercourse with her after that occasion. I can’t count the number of times we had sex,” he said.
According to Quadri, the relationship between them became sour due to the complainant’s jealousy resulting from his perceived relationships.

A rebel leader accused of orchestrating deadly attacks in Rwandas border regions pleaded guilty Thursday to terrorism and other charges, and admitted to working with foreign governments against Kigali.
The admission of conspiracy by Callixte Nsabimana, the spokesman for the National Liberation Front (FLN), risks further escalating tensions between Rwandas President Paul Kagame and his immediate neighbours, whom he has accused of spying.
Nsabimana was arrested last month for his involvement with FLN, an insurgent movement blamed for attacks inside Rwanda from a forested area near Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Nsabimana plead guilty to 16 charges including terrorism and murder, and offered an unconditional apology for his crimes.
“I apologise for all things I did,” he told the court.
“I want to declare that my work with FLN is over, and anything else they do from now on is their business, not mine. I would like to apologise to the president, those that we injured and the families of those who died. I apologise to all Rwandans.”
Flight risk
His lawyer requested bail, with a hearing scheduled for Tuesday. The prosecution opposed bail, declaring Nsabimana a flight risk.
The FLN is the armed wing of the Rwandan Movement for Democratic Change, a political opposition group founded by Paul Rusesabagina, the hotelier whose actions during the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi were depicted in the Hollywood blockbuster Hotel Rwanda.
In December last year, Nsabimana claimed responsibility for setting fire to passenger buses in Nyungwe Forest—a region popular among tourists coming to see endangered mountain gorillas—which led to the death of two people and many injuries.
Those attacks prompted many Western governments including France, Germany, Canada, and Australia to advise their nationals against travel to the area.
A number of rebel groups opposed to Kagame have proliferated just over Rwanda's borders in remote forest regions of DR Congo and Burundi.
The FLN is also affiliated with the Democratic Liberation Forces of Rwanda (FDLR), another rebel group based in DR Congo, which occasionally carries out cross-border attacks against Rwandan forces.
In his guilty plea, Nsabimana admitted to collaborating with Burundis intelligence services and Ugandas military.
“We asked them for military and diplomatic support against Rwanda, and they were willing to help us,” he said.
Kagame has accused his neighbours of meddling in Rwandas affairs and sponsoring armed movements against his government in Kigali.
In February, he ordered the border with Uganda shut, and ties with Burundi have long been sour.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has clarified that it has recently re-aligned the computation of the country’s teledensity with the latest population figure of 190 million given by the National Population Commission (NPC), up from the 140 million population of 2006.
Following the re-alignment, which is also in line with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)’s calculation of teledensity, the Commission arrived at a teledensity of 91 per cent by the end of March, 2019.
This is just as active subscriber base for the month of March increased to 173.7 million from 173.6 million in February, 2019.
Telephone density or teledensity is the number of telephone connections for every hundred individuals living within an area.
Hitherto, teledensity in Nigeria was calculated using the 140 million population official figure of 2006 against the prevailing monthly subscriber base.
According to the Commission, as at February, 2019, when the 140 million population figure was last used and benchmarked against the active subscriber base of 173.6 million, the country’s teledensity stood at 124.05 per cent.
The teledensity figure stood at 124.29 per cent in January with active subscriber base of 174 million.
However, from March 2019, the Commission began to use the rebased 190 million population of Nigeria, as projected by the NPC, against the subscriber base of 176.7 million to calculate teledensity.
With the regulatory re-alignment by the NCC, teledensity for the country as at end of March, 2019 was put at 91 per cent. This is based on the rebased population figure of 190 million against active subscriber base of 173.7 million.
Explaining further, the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, said the clarification on teledensity calculation has become necessary to avoid misinterpretation of the re-alignment to mean a reduction in teledensity.
“Rather, the teledensity actually did not reduce because in March, active mobile subscriber base actually increased. So, what has happened is a re-alignment of the teledensity calculation with the rebased population figure of 190 million against the prevailing monthly subscriber base, which is a more realistic figure for the country in light of the latest population figure,” Danbatta said.
The EVC said “this clarification is to accurately inform telecoms operators and telecoms investors, who must be provided with realistic and accurate figures needed for their day-to-day decision-making process. The clarification will also bring other stakeholders such as academia and industry researchers in tandem with the updated teledensity.”

The acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has said the commission is seeking partnership with Nigerian entertainers to fight corruption particularly internet fraud.
He made this statement on Wednesday while speaking on the prosecution of musician, Afeez Fashola, a.k.a Naira Marley, for charges bordering on internet fraud at an interactive session with artists, comedians, and On-Air-Personalities in Abuja.
“I have said it in the past and I will also like to restate, that the EFCC does not go after an innocent person.“Our mandate is to rid Nigeria of any form of economic and financial crimes, and the internet .
Magu also sought to partner with Nigerian artistes and comedians in the fight against corruption particularly internet fraud. EFCC acting spokesman, Mr. Tony Orilade quoted the chairman to have told the stakeholders in the entertainment industry that they had a part to play in discouraging criminality in the society. He said, “You have a very wide reach, so lend us your voices.
Please let your works propagate and promote integrity and the right values.“I urge you to raise a collective slogan against all forms of criminality among our youths, condemn in strong terms, ostentatious living without credible sources of income, particularly the get-rich-at-all-cost syndrome among the youths

‘Bob Risky in Love’ was produced by Nollywood Namaste Production company while Ken Steve Anuka was the director.
Bobrisky is featured in the movie as a transgender woman named Cherechi who traveled out of the country as a man only to return to the village as a woman to the chagrin of his fiancee and relatives.
